If you need a pass to the ARC to complete this assignment please let me know. As always we will have extra help on Thursday night in Small House.

Tonight's Assignment

Find the writing you did on your personal page regarding your position on the issues we discussed in class (Homework 14).
  1. Create a new GarageBand project called 'YOURNAME Homework 15'
  2. Delete the piano track and add a new track
  3. Record yourself reading your work
  4. Find a nice intro loop and add it to a second track
  5. Position the first track so the intro music plays for a few seconds before your spoken word comes in

Saving

To save your file and avoid the 'Disk Write (Drive is too slow)' error follow these steps.
  • When creating your new music project click the little blue triangle button next to the name of your file
save_dialog.png
  • This expands the save dialog to include more options
  • Select the following path Macintosh HD > Users > Shared
save_expanded.png

  • Name the file using your name
  • Click 'Create'

Now you will be able to work without getting the error we saw in class.
NOTE: the file is now saved on the local machine only, not on the network. Make sure you can find the file again for next time by either:
  • Using the same computer each class
  • OR dragging the file to your desktop before you logout

Adding and Deleting Tracks

There are two methods to add tracks, the first is to choose 'New Track' from the 'Track' Menu. OR you can simply click the 'Plus' button from the bottom left of your screen.

To delete a track, select it by clicking the name of the track and from the 'Track' menu choose 'Delete Track' (or just press delete).

Viewing the Loop Library

Find the loop library one of two ways: by pressing the 'Eye' icon in the bottom left of your screen or by selecting 'Show Loop Browser' from the 'Control' menu

Exporting your work

Once your work is complete choose 'Export Song to Disk' from the 'Share' menu, give it a name and save it to your desktop. Then attach the file to an email to Mr. Mundahl.
