This classic puzzle challenges us to solve a straight forward problem using creative thinking. The problem can be solved exactly as described. There is no 'trick' (other than knowing the answer): you don't need to fold the paper, bend space or time or use any other 'tricks' to solve it.
The challenge has two parts.
Part 1
Starting from any point in the puzzle draw four continuous straight lines (do not lift up your pen) so that each of the dots has at least one line running through it.
Example
This is an example of a failed attempt at solving the puzzle. However the rules were followed correctly: only four lines were used and they are connected (the 'pencil' did not come off the page).
Part 2
You may solve this puzzle by using ANY means, but you must be able to tell me how you solved it (cite your sources).
